A short drive north under the fjord through the Hvalfjörður tunnel to Akranes, a fishing town on a peninsula with two photogenic lighthouses you can climb. Langisandur beach runs along the town and the views back across the bay to Reykjavík and Snæfellsjökull are excellent on a clear day.
